Multi-Word Combinations in Science Communication: A Corpus-Driven Study of University Press Releases

Entrepreneurial universities sponsor their research through the media to increase popularity. This in turn may engender a biased representation of scientific knowledge media. We present results quali-quantitative analysis phraseology characterizing press releases (PRs) issued by and focusing on published research. Our investigation aims identify typical n-grams university PRs main purposes. The study is based developmental 68,913-word collection PRs. 5-word were assigned categories functions. Results contribute characterization as hybrid genre at crossroads between news ads.
